Creating Pixel Art Scenes with Opus 5.5

Hugo -

A rainy pixel art island with a glowing tea house, a skeleton reading by a campfire, hanging turnip lanterns, and a waterfall under the moon
Not bad at all! (yes, fire under rain, I wanted to see particles FX)

A quick experiment today: I'm playing around with the latest Claude Opus 5.5 model to generate pixel art! Let's see if it can generate a looping animated scene.

The prompt

The prompt sets the mood, the lighting, and the intended use, while leaving room for the model to invent the scene. Here is the exact prompt:

View prompt: Halloween diorama
Make me an animated pixel-art Halloween diorama, built to be the looping cover for a 10-hour lofi music video.

Build the palette on strong warm/cold contrast: a cold, rainy night against warm pockets of firelight and glowing windows. Bring it to life with great effects: rain, fire sparks, drifting smoke and flickering light.

It should look crisp full-screen at 1080p and loop smoothly for hours.

OK, it's not perfect, but it's much better than what an LLM could have done before. Of course, it's slow (10 minutes here), but I do expect the next iteration of LLMs to be able to do this much faster!

PS: Claude can use the Sprite Fusion API to generate and animate any pixel art sprite you need for your game.
