Project Import/Export

Understand Sprite Fusion project import/export, autosave, and how your project is persisted.

TL;DR

  • In the project panel, you can Save and Load your full Sprite Fusion project as a JSON file

Export A Project

Project export saves your entire project as a .json file.

Use it when you want to:

  • Back up a map
  • Move a project to another machine
  • Share a project with someone else

The saved file is named from the project name.

You can also use Ctrl / Cmd + S to save the project JSON quickly.

Import A Project

Project import loads a Sprite Fusion project JSON file back into the editor.

When loaded, Sprite Fusion restores everything: tilesets imported, autotiles rules, project settings, map design etc.

Autosave

Sprite Fusion autosaves ongoing work in the browser and desktop versions. Autosave is 100% local to your machine.

It is not meant for:

  • Sharing projects
  • Moving projects between devices
  • Long-term backups

Unsaved Local Work

If Sprite Fusion detects local work while loading another project, it can ask whether you want to keep or discard the current map.

Save your map before loading another project if the current map matters.

  • Rely on autosave while actively editing
  • Export a project JSON at important milestones
  • Store project JSON files somewhere durable

Get the Desktop Version

  • Works 100% offline
  • Faster map exports
  • One-time purchase
  • Lifetime updates included
